Ceramic - Ceramic button style clutch facings are very durable and actually grab better as they get hotter while organic facings tend to fade. Ceramic button clutches are appropriate for hard-working vocational applications (like dump trucks, refuse vehicles, off-road equipment and logging or hauling coal in mountainous terrain) but there are downsides to ceramic material. First the clutch is either in or out - no soft engagement. Second the ceramic material is as hard as the pressure plate, center plate and flywheel so all of the clutch components wear at the same rate. |
